Hey fashion royalty! Coming from the Queen City of Cincinnati, Ohio where even our tallest building wears a tiara (so fashionable, right?), I’m Jordyn Bryant! If you’re family or a long-time friend then you know that this was the same introduction I once used during the four years I competed in pageants. This, as well as getting my first sewing machine at the age of 10, planning fashion shows and getting involved on fashion boards have all helped shaped my love for fashion. As you can tell I’m no stranger when it comes to diving into anything that might seem challenging, adventurous or risky! Fast-forward five years after competing in my last pageant and here I am taking on a new and exciting journey for my first semester as Style Guru with CollegeFashionista.
Taking risks in fashion is one of my favorite things to see whether it be on TV for a red carpet appearance or on the beautiful, red bricks of my own campus. From a very young age I knew that I wanted to be a part of the fashion industry which led me to majoring in retail merchandising and fashion product development at Ohio University. After completing my freshman year, my aspirations of one day becoming a Creative Director for an esteemed fashion magazine have become stronger and stronger.
I don’t believe you have to be the right person to pull off something daring, instead I think that a little confidence can make someone’s look go a long way. Someone I am constantly drawing inspiration from is Rihanna who is always able to soften her fierce look or amp it up with a single wardrobe change. From her makeup and hair to her latest street style, it seems like I’m frequently screenshotting her Instagram. Just through my phone screen her confidence radiates when she expresses herself through her often bold, sometimes girly fashion sense and that’s something I truly admire.
So for my very first STYLE GURU BIO I decided to show a glimpse of one of my favorite trends of mixing edgy pieces like my military vest with more feminine notes. This flowy tank was the perfect touch to add something soft to contrast my harsh bottoms.
Of course I had to throw on my favorite boyfriend jeans. I can’t decide if the best part about these is that no boyfriend is required or how versatile they are. Pair these babies with a block heel like I did or dress your look down with a cute pair of slip-ons. Pulling my look all together I went with my go-to Alex and Ani bracelets, watch and a chevron necklace. Throwing my essentials in a small clutch that complements the army green and gold tones adds the perfect finishing touch.
I’m beyond excited to be interning with CollegeFashionista this summer and give some inspiration to my readers. Hope to have already inspired you to take some risks with your fashion choices, I dare you to try something new. Let’s have a #RAD semester.
