STYLE GURU BIO: Jozy Caulfield

My sophomore year of college brought about major changes in my life. Transferring schools meant making new friends, adapting to new places, and getting involved in the most ways I possibly could. It meant stepping out of my comfort zone, grasping every opportunity and ultimately, it meant further developing my love for fashion.

The University of Minnesota brought a lot to the table compared to my little hometown college back in North Dakota; being in the city allowed for an eccentric atmosphere with opportunities lurking behind every corner. It was only a matter of weeks before I found myself fully immersed in the city life. Within a month of being at the U, I had joined our Fashion & Business club, landed a management position at a local boutique, and became a blogger for the Fashion & Business club blog TWIN—opportunities I could have only dreamt of back at UND.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a thing for fashion and a unique style of my own. My style developed at a young age with my sparkling ruby red slippers, where three clicks of the heel allowed me to be anything I wanted to be. A fashion designer, a flight attendant, a baby doctor, you name it—these were just a few of the dreams I aspired to achieve with the click of the heel on those pretty little shoes. I’m not kidding you when I say I wore those shoes everywhere; the bathtub? You bet. One time that sticks out in particular was when I was 4 years old and my dad tried to dress me to go visit mom in the delivery room at the hospital. A yellow raincoat, some navy velvet pants, and you got it—sparkly ruby red slippers strapped on tight. Now that’s what I call mixing ‘n’ matching.

Since the retirement of my sparkling shoes, I’ve developed my style into something I consider to be a little less “loud” and more sophisticated (yet the love for sparkles still remains). Basic pieces, classic blacks, and stylish statements are the vast majority of what makes up my wardrobe. Throughout the years I’ve discovered that fashion is really just what you make it to be. What you wear and how you wear it are two entirely different concepts that make one heck of a difference when speaking style. Fashion has no limits and no rules, only space—space to grow, evolve, and exceed all expectations, including our own. It allows us to develop a style of our own and ultimately, it allows us to become the unique Fashionistas we were born to be.

May fashion speak to you as it speaks to me, and may your style showcase the inner you. Go out, be bold, and most importantly, be you!
