Hey everyone! My name is Julia and I am a new Style Guru for the summer 2016 internship. I am looking forward to being a sophomore at the Fashion Institute of Technology where I am majoring in fashion business. Although I grew up on Long Island and traveled to the city often, living in New York City has always been a dream of mine. I am inspired by everything around me in the city. The sights, sounds and even the smells can add to the New York City experience. It’s the perfect place to “people watch” and to photograph the street styles that can catch any CollegeFashionista’s attention.
Most people that know me would describe my style as casual and somewhat beachy, in fact my roommates often say that my style reflects the American Eagle Outfitters brand. (which is probably why I have worked for there the past two years). The photos reflect my new denim and bodysuit obsession. It’s kind of funny how this look reminds my mom of the clothes she wore in the ’80s. Another trend that is a blast from the ’80s past is pins. I have mixed new ones with ones that I am calling my “retro pins” which are pins that my mom had actually saved on my skirt. The final picture highlights my bag and my rings. One of my high school obsessions was watching The Carrie Diaries. I would dream of being Carrie Bradshaw and living in NYC. Being a student at FIT has allowed me to live that dream so I thought it would be fun to duplicate the bag that Carrie made for her very first NYC internship.
Although it is sometimes difficult to be motivated to put on my running shoes, running has always been a big part of my life. I am a seven year cross country and track runner and I have continued to run on the FIT cross country and track teams (yes we do have sports teams).
When I am not eating pizza (NYC has the very best) or grilled cheese, my all time favorite food is ice cream and I’ve made it a goal of mine to visit all of the best ice cream shops in NYC.
I had many opportunities to volunteer during NYC fashion week and I have enjoyed interning with a super cool designer my freshman year. I loved each and every experience and all of the people that I have met and worked with at each event.
I am excited to be interning as a summer Fashionista and I hope that you enjoy visiting my page!
