STYLE GURU BIO: Kari Grunwald

Hey CollegeFashionistas/os! My name is Kari Grunwald. I am currently a sophomore at Fordham University, pursing a major in journalism with a minor in sustainable business. I am extremely excited to begin writing for CollegeFashionista and I am really looking forward to sharing all of Fordham’s students’ unique, incredible style with you!

For me, style has always been more than just the clothes I wear. It has been a way to show not just my personality, but rather, how I’m feeling specifically that day. My style can range from preppy to urban to boho to classic, all in the same week! I feel as though this is the case for most people. We are not defined or labeled by one style. The beauty in style is that we can control it day by day, according to our moods, attitudes and aesthetics. So basically, in other words, I have no signature style. I’m as comfortable in a bodycon dress and a black leather jacket as I am in an oversized sweater and boyfriend jeans.

Anyway, I feel that college has adapted my style to be sophisticated, yet practical. I remember in high school I would squeeze my feet into flats that were several sizes too small and by the end of the day I would be left with bloody, blistered heels (gross…I know, I know) all for the sake of an outfit. I used to think that’s what fashion was, a little bit of pain in exchange for a lot of compliments. Now that I’m older (and required to walk to class no matter what shoes I’m wearing), I see that style isn’t a competition. Style is about putting on an outfit that fits perfectly, looks amazing, and forces you into feeling confident because you know what, you know you look good. You know the feeling. And isn’t it just the best?

I have learned so much about myself and my style from living in New York City. Every day, I learn from the people around me. I see amazing outfits daily and am constantly thinking how I could recreate the look. That’s my goal for this semester. I want to capture outfits that stand out and document them in order to share new ideas, trends, and designs with all of you.

Well, if you’ve made it this far though my bio, I thank you for reading, and I promise to give you a great, stylish semester filled with various prints, patterns, colors and most importantly, comfortable shoes… because, as Marilyn Monroe once said, “Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world.”
