Hello CollegeFashionista readers! My name is Karly Siegel and I am a Retail Merchandising and Fashion Product Development major at Ohio University. This is my first semester as a Style Guru and I cannot express into words how excited I am to spread my own fashion sense and knowledge with you.
I fell in love with fashion the moment I was able to dress myself. It has always been my favorite form of self-expression and the one that I always utilize the most. I will never forget the time I went to my friend’s seventh or eighth birthday party in bright blue and black leopard platforms. All the parents gave me dirty looks and I never really paid attention to what my friends thought because I felt confident and beautiful. To this day, I choose to wear clothes that make me feel that same way and encourage all you other Fashionistas/os to do the same!
Not only is fashion my favorite way to express myself, but it is also my favorite form of art. While some people enjoy strolling through an art gallery, I could sit on a bench for hours in my favorite city, checking out the killer street style. What I am most excited about this semester is sharing with you all the unique outfit combinations that I find out on the streets of Ohio University and Ocean City, Maryland.
Today for my first post, I decided to share with you one of my favorite street style combinations: destroyed denim and heels. Surprisingly, people pay quite a lot for a nice-looking rip in their jeans. One Teaspoon and Blank NYC both make an affordable pair of destroyed denim that is comparable to the more pricey ones seen on celebrities by rag & bone. The heels I am wearing in the photographs above are by my all-time favorite shoe designer, Jeffrey Campbell. I just recently added these hand-cut leather wedges to my collection and couldn’t resist sharing them with you. Even though I am wearing long pants, the Free People tank top is what makes this outfit a summertime look. For this summer, I am crazy about anything with a detailed or open back or really anything that does not require a bra (yay). To add a little more color and detail to this look, I threw on my favorite Alex and Ani bracelets and a couple funky rings. One of the most satisfying feelings is finding a unique piece of jewelry or clothing in an antique shop. The compass ring I am wearing is one of those treasures that really brought me joy when I found it because it is not something you can find just anywhere.
Thanks for reading my first post and learning a little bit about me. Now it is time for me to go out and capture some fabulous summertime looks. Stay tuned for my second post next week!
