Hi there, my name is Kate. I’m currently a senior (okay, I’m a junior but I’m one class away from being a “senior,” so let me have my moment) at the University of North Florida and I am majoring in Public Relations. This is my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista and I can’t wait to begin putting my articles together.
As much as I would love to say that fashion and beauty have always been my thing, I really can’t. Growing up, I saw my mom wear some of the most beautiful clothing you’ve ever seen and never once cared in the slightest. I enjoyed spending my time playing guitar and writing songs while wearing torn up jeans and shirts I had collected from various Paramore concerts and yearly Warped Tours I would force my dad to take me to. I never thought of myself as somebody with any sense of “style” until I went off to college.
Three years ago I had an epiphany, almost, and realized that I didn’t have to dress like I was going to the MET Gala to have a sense of style. All I had to do was wear what I liked and what inspired me and that was that. Since that day it has been my dream to work in the fashion industry and hopefully inspire people to love themselves for who they really are, not what magazines tell them to be.
I find inspiration in anything and everything. I base my looks off of whatever lipstick I want to wear each day and take it from there. I don’t think I would be able to define my look specifically, but you can find a good pair of boyfriend jeans, multiple bodysuits and an array of chokers filling my closet at all times.
I can’t wait to share this semester with my fellow Fashionistas/os and see what other Gurus are loving all over the country.
