STYLE GURU BIO: Katie Keogh

Hi, Fashionistas/os! My name is Katie Keogh, and I’ll be a junior this fall at SUNY Oneonta. I am studying Adolescence Education with a concentration in Mathematics. I’ve recently taken up a minor in Journalism. I act as model coordinator for my school’s Student Fashion Society, an organization for students interested in fashion.

Let’s talk about me for a moment so you can get to know the person behind these future posts. I live a healthy life by exercising regularly and eating right. I’m body positive and promote self-love. I have an obsession with music. I could spend hours discovering new artists to jam out to. Favorite artists include The 1975, Ta-ku, Disclosure, Arctic Monkeys and The Neighbourhood. Hobbies include sketching, watching cute animal videos and spending too much time getting ready. After college, I have dreams of moving to NYC to pursue a career in modeling.

Fashion has always been a major aspect of my life. Standing tall at 6-feet, I’ve always had to pay more attention to the clothes I wear to make sure I dressed to accommodate for my long frame. Friends and family have chewed my ear off for years about going into modeling but I didn’t have the confidence when I was younger to put myself out there in the fashion world. I enjoyed drawing outfits in my sketchbook during art class that I would love to style on myself or others. Born and raised on Long Island, I’m a quick train ride to one of the four fashion capitals of the world: New York City. I’ve had the privilege to travel to many parts of the world, including two other fashion capitals, Paris and London. Travel has opened my eyes to the different looks people wear for each trend, from the next town over to another country around the world. It shows how universal fashion is.

My sense of style is a wide variety. I can go from one day wearing a floral dress and ballet flats to pairing a crop top with high-waisted jeans and a flannel the next day. I love simple patterns, like solids and stripes, because they are easy to pull off and can have different looks depending on how you style and accessorize. A constant staple in my wardrobe is black: it’s slimming and contrasts nicely with my porcelain skin. I draw fashion influences from others, whether they’re people around me (on campus, in public, etc.) or those on social media (models, #ootd tags, etc.). I’m always watching fashion show live streams and looking at trends to keep updated on what’s happening. I also enjoy watching haul videos on YouTube to discover new places to shop. It gives me a different look on how others’ styles are and let’s me see what I could incorporate into my outfits.

The look I have pictured is one of my favorites from this month. Jumpsuits have made a return, and it’s a trend I’ve always loved. It’s the perfect piece to go from your first day of class to your new job/internship and to a night out with your friends. I added a twist braid belt and knotted it at the end to make up for extra length. Simple golden pieces, such as my watch, complete the look without drawing attention away from the outfit. Distracting accessories with a floral pattern like this make the outfit too flashy.

My first term as a Style Guru will surely be a blast! I’m stoked to share my fashion findings on campus with you here at CollegeFashionista. Have a #RAD start to the new school year!
