Hey Fashionistas/os! My name is Katie O’Hara and I am thrilled to become a part of the CollegeFashionista family as a Style Guru this fall semester. I am currently a sophomore at Ithaca College where I study Integrated Marketing Communications. I have always been a very creative and visual person; and naturally, I began to demonstrate an interest in style from a rather young age. I still have vivid memories of myself sporting pieces like leopard print leggings, velvet hats and butterfly clips every day to kindergarten. I view fashion as a form of identity expression and a creative outlet. Over time, my style has certainly become more refined. At age six, my flashy clothes mirrored my youthful imagination and enthusiasm. Now age 19, my style has evolved to be more monochromatic and relatively minimalistic, reflecting my “less is more” and “quality over quantity” approach to many aspects of life.
A major source of my style inspiration comes from YouTube fashion and beauty “vloggers.” I am fascinated by the amount of talent and creativity that ordinary young women and men are able to share with such broad audiences, all thanks to the Internet. For me, fashion must be relatable and accessible, which is why I love streetwear so much. Most of my style icons come from blogs or everyday life rather than runways or magazines.
After college, I dream of working and living in New York City. One of my favorite things about New York, aside from the beautiful architecture and countless brunch joints, is the abundance of stylish and confident individuals seen on every block. There is something so empowering about a woman who owns her look from head to toe. This is one of my favorite things about style: regardless of varying trends and tastes, your attitude is what makes or breaks an outfit. If you don’t believe in your look, you’re not expressing your genuine self. You’re simply wearing clothes.
My personal style mixes minimalism and neutrals with an occasional trend piece or hint of color. Here, I am wearing one of my favorite types of outfits because it features comfortable yet chic apparel, like these lightweight joggers, an olive green crop top and flat sandals. I finished off the look with playful mirrored sunglasses, a cross-body bag and gold jewelry.
The Style Guru internship perfectly applies my knack for creative writing as well as my love for style and photography. I am eager to share with you how campus Fashionistas/os stay #RAD here in the quickly declining temperatures of Ithaca, New York. Stay tuned!
