STYLE GURU BIO: Katy Gioeli

Hey Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Katy and I’m a junior studying communication at the University of Connecticut. As a lover of all things fashion, writing, photography, and social media, I am beyond excited and honored to be writing for CollegeFashionista this semester!

So, what brings me here? Well, technically, an informational posting through my school’s department of communication brought me here. But, for the past few years, I’ve been an avid CollegeFashionista reader, and for as long as I can remember I’ve loved expressing myself through fashion. In fact, when I was just four years old I had a hat collection that could’ve rivaled Kylie’s shoe collection, complete with a hat with fake food glued all over it to commemorate the time I planted my first garden. It was a fashion statement to say the least.

My style is ever-changing. I’ve never been able to pin it down to one confining definition. Some days I like dressing preppy, decked out in Vineyard Vines or J Crew, while other days I like dressing in a more athleisure style. I’ve often attributed this to my being a Gemini, ruled by the twins who make sticking to one style pretty difficult. Currently, I’m really feeling neutral pieces and baseball caps.

My biggest pieces of style advice are as follows: It’s okay to wear white pants after labor day. It’s 2017 people, and white pants are perfect paired with a big sweater and riding boots in the winter; if you find a piece of clothing that you like, but you’re not sure if you should buy it, put it on hold and go somewhere else. If you’re still thinking about it a while later, treat yourself and buy it; don’t dress for anyone but yourself. So what if you like the look of fishnets under ripped jeans, but your best friend doesn’t? Style is personal; it’s a form of self-expression. So, wear what makes you feel good, no matter what anyone says.

Thanks for reading lovelies, I’m so excited to take on this semester with all of you!
