Hello fellow Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Kayla Maidens and I am a senior at Florida State University majoring in retail merchandising and product development. This is my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista, and I am beyond thrilled for the opportunity to be a part of the Style Guru team!
It is safe to say I have loved fashion from an early age. I fell in love with a plastic bin of dress up clothes and garment changing baby dolls before I could even write my own name. While dance and tennis lessons failed to maintain my interest, shopping became the only hobby I dedicated myself to. The day I pass up an opportunity to shop has yet to come (despite being on the budget of a college student). This has led me to where I am today, studying retail merchandising and product development here at FSU with goals of becoming a big name buyer.
It is impossible for me to confine my sense of style to just one look. In a sense, it ranges between two broad ends of the fashion spectrum. I find inspiration daily, whether it’s the latest issue of Vogue, various blogs or, my personal favorite, Kendall Jenner (heart eye emoji). While deciding what to wear for my debut column, I went for the ensemble pictured, seeing as it encompasses all of my current obsessions. T-shirt dresses, ankle booties and bold accessories are all things I’m crazy about at the moment. I tend to favor the color black (don’t we all?) along with other neutrals. Never do I hesitate to spice up something bland with the perfect statement necklace (as shown!) or transfer my belongings to a different bag just because it simply “makes the outfit.”
I think we can all agree that Rachel Zoe said it best when she said, “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.” With that being said, I can’t wait to share with you a sense of my personal style as well as showcase the unique trendsetters I’m spotting around my campus. Let’s see what fashion trends are on the rise this winter and spring season!
