Hello everyone! My name is Kayla Terbecki and I am so excited to be a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista this semester! I attend Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee and am double majoring in textiles and apparel and fashion merchandising with a minor in business. I graduate in December so this will be my last semester!
I am originally from a town called Muskegon, Michigan, but I desired to experience a new place when I had the option to for college. Nashville is such a wonderful city to live in; many describe it as a big city with a small town feel and I have found this to be quite true. In addition to these places, I spent the last two summers in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with my immediate family, I lived in Virginia Beach, Virginia for four years and I even studied abroad in London during the fall semester of 2014. London changed my outlook on fashion for the better; being there only made me absolutely certain that I wanted to continue pursuing my majors.
My love for fashion began at a young age. I wish I could say that I was the little girl with her hair neatly clipped in a bow, a cute pink tutu and a few touches of dainty silver jewelry, but I was the complete opposite. Looking back, my motto seemed to be “the brighter the better” when it came to the colors I put together. I made my own jewelry with big beads, sported green eye shadow and put together the most outrageous looks. I remember being happy with my unique style during this time, though, so I wouldn’t change a thing. Throughout college, I want to say that my style has become more refined. I prefer neutrals with pops of color, find myself seeking out certain brands, and remind myself that my closet should be “quality over quantity”. A few of my guilty pleasures in fashion include anything and everything Kate Spade, charcoal black eyeliner, leather jackets, and my personal shoe collection that seems to grow each week.
The outfit that I’m wearing here was my go-to for the summer. I could throw it on for almost any occasion, whether that be spending time with friends, walking around downtown and even to work! These glitter sneakers are my favorite; they’re so versatile and comfortable while the glitter adds a feminine touch. (Of course I had to get them in black as well!) Since I’m newly married, I also like to show off my Mrs. necklace, which goes with just about any outfit. This quilted white skirt is perfect for summer, and who doesn’t own a basic chambray blouse or two nowadays? They’ve definitely become essentials in my wardrobe!
I’m so excited to continue sharing my thoughts with you as a Style Guru!
