STYLE GURU BIO: Kelsey Keena

Guess who’s back again? Let me introduce myself: I am Kelsey Keena, and I’m currently a senior at California State University of Fullerton with a major in English/creative writing. I’m so delighted to be returning to CollegeFashionista and to be given the opportunity to share my love of clothing with all of you!

Throughout my time with CollegeFashionista, I’ve learned the importance of accepting, and thriving, in your own personal style. Before, I would hinder the idea of being a Fashionista, because my style can’t be found within a magazine. I even found myself creating outfits that I thought others would enjoy, even if it wasn’t true to myself, because I was afraid that people wouldn’t be open to a vintage Style Guru. Boy, was I wrong! I’ve gotten such a positive response and now I feel more comfortable within my own personal style and self.

My love for thrift stores began when I was in high school and I would have nearly no budget for clothing. So I started shopping at thrift stores and tried to make inspired looks from Teen Vogue or what was trending on the runway. I currently get inspiration from my grandmother: she loved bright colors and her outfits would match perfectly, from head to toe. I would always admire how she was never afraid of wearing anything and that’s given me the confidence to do the same, in order to hold her style legacy. Now, I’m here as a Style Guru, sharing my vintage finds and appreciation for handmade clothing! My goal with my posts is to show other Fashionistas that style doesn’t have to be about the brands, and how it is possible to have fun with clothing!

I find it hilarious how I used to describe my style as minimal. I am notoriously known for my retro inspired specs but I used to be afraid of wearing brightly colored clothing. I recently found this ’60s adorable shift dress at a vintage shop and, not only have I become friends with the shop owner, but I now have a gem with tons of history behind it. Throughout my experience of blogging last semester, I’ve discovered that life is too short to be afraid of wearing whatever makes you happy.

When I’m not hitting the books, you can usually find me searching for the latest gems in thrift stores. Not only do I love the thrill of the hunt, but also dramatizing the history of each item of clothing. On my down time, I do tend to also binge watch all forms of anime.

Someone needs to pinch me, because I can’t believe I’m a returning Style Guru! I can’t wait to ring in another semester with all of you!
