Well hey, Fashionistas! My name is Kelsey Mosteller and this is my first semester as a Style Guru! I’m currently a freshmen at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, majoring in mass communication. Although I’m a communications major, fashion has always been and will always be important to me. I never thought I would be able to mix my love for writing and publishing with my love for fashion, but I’m so thrilled that I get to embrace both by being a Style Guru.
Before moving to Dayton, where Wright State is located, I grew up in a small town of around 350 people. Growing up in a small town really helped me become who I am today. In elementary school my friends would wear cowboy boots and camouflage. While I admired their efforts, it helped me realize that I did not want to be one of those people. I didn’t want to blend in with them all; I wanted to stand out.
At first, like many other 10-year-olds, I thought my way of standing out was through singing and dancing with the thought that one day I might get famous. When I finally realized that, well, I just wasn’t that great, I found fashion. I can say that my earliest fashion inspiration was Sharpay Evans from High School Musical, but my longest standing inspiration is my grandmother. When I was younger she would match my outfits for me and take me shopping. Now every time I buy an outfit I think “Does this match? Is this actually worth it? Would my grandma like this?” While I can say that some of my outfits she does not approve of, even the one featured in this article, I know that she can always help me to stand out from everyone else (even if she is mad at me because my stomach is hanging out).
My style varies day-to-day depending on what type of adventures I am going on. I love experimenting with fashion, however, this is one staple look that I will never ditch. This go-to outfit combines my favorite trends at the moment: mom jean shorts and florals. The lace-up detail of the floral crop top is playful but subtle along with the layered cuffs which gives off the free-spirited summer look that everyone is wanting to achieve. I paired the crop top with a pair of button-up mom jean shorts along with adorable black sandals.
When I’m not on campus, shopping or looking for the next outfit to put together, you can find me out and about on some sort of adventure. I love going to concerts and traveling around the world; sitting around at home is never enough.
I look forward to photographing and sharing the amazing fashion trends that I find on my college campus this summer. Until next time, stay RAD Fashionistas!
