Hi there fello Fashionistas! I am so excited to start a new semester with CollegeFashionista. I am an international studies and Latin American studies double major with a focus in pre-law at Miami University. I am a proud member of my school’s club rowing team and MUF&D, aka the best fashion club in the history of the world (you can quote me on it). I caught the style bug early on in high school thanks to Seventeen magazine, and though I outgrew the publication, I still look to magazines and blogs to inspire my daily looks. NASTY GAL, and its founder Sophia Amoruso, were major contributors to my love for fashion and the behind-the-scenes hard work and ethic that goes into making a brand. And I’m not talking about Tommy Hilfiger top-of-the-line brands: I’m talking about making a brand for yourself and figuring out what you want your look to show others; that can literally be anything, as long as it’s true to who you are.
My look above is perfect for all of those high school grad parties I’m returning to for summer vacation. Though it’s a little dressy for a school day, it works for brunch with the girls with a pair of sandals or even an interview if you add a cute blazer. What made this dress so true to me and my “brand” was the color, regardless of the nearly blinding bright pink (this is literally the only pink item in my closet)—the dress demands attention but it’s still professional and sleek. I added some basic accessories, a light cuff and nude sandal heels, to let the dress get all of the attention it deserves. I recommend the shape as well; the drawstring gives the summery, comfortable fit some shape, and even better: you can find a simple fit like this anywhere and wear it everywhere! I hope CollegeFashionista is a stepping stone to helping you find your brand, like it has been for me.
