Hi Fashionistas! My name is Kristen, and I am currently a junior marketing major at UMass Amherst. I love fashion (Obviously, right? Otherwise I wouldn’t be here!), and I also love photography and writing, so I am more than excited for this semester with CollegeFashionista.
I have some experience in fashion as a sales associate and as a fashion/marketing intern, and I hope to gain a lot more experience by the time I graduate! Next fall, I will be (fingers crossed) studying fashion at the Istituto Europeo di Design while abroad in Florence. I hope to one day work in fashion at a magazine or as a buyer—basically, I want to be Rachel Green from Friends.
It’s a bit hard to define my personal style because I change it from day to day and from year to year. It ranges from classic to edgy to girly to boho. I guess if I had to pick three words that describe my style currently, I would say feminine, trendy, and simple. My style idol is always Audrey Hepburn, for obvious reasons, but more current ones include Miranda Kerr and Gigi Hadid. Whether they are dressing up or dressing down, these trendsetting ladies always look flawless! I’m pretty sure that they could even make potato sacks trendy if they wanted to (This may have something to do with the fact that they are both supermodels, but whatever).
Miranda’s outfits are always on point because, similarly to Audrey Hepburn, her looks are feminine and classic, and she generally picks beautiful but simple pieces that never go out of style. I also love Gigi’s sporty style—though she can certainly rock a ball gown. I particularly love her ability to make sneakers look so cool; I’m convinced Gigi singlehandedly started the black Nike/white Adidas sneaker trend that it seems every girl is wearing these days, and I happen to be a very big fan of that trend. It makes me remember that comfort in fashion is acceptable (and if you are walking a lot in a big city like NYC or LA—it’s necessary!)
The look that I am wearing here is more girly than I usually dress. My little sister gave me this romper from Urban Outfitters for Christmas, and I am obsessed with it (find a similar one here). It’s light and comfortable and can be worn as a casual or dressy look depending on how you accessorize. I’ve paired it with my lace-up flats from Charles Albert (similar here) and a simple necklace from Kate Spade (similar here), another present that I have been wearing every day since Christmas. This is why I love the holidays.
I am so excited to start this semester as a Style Guru—let’s have a RAD semester!
