STYLE GURU BIO: Kristina McInnis

Hello, party people! I am Kristina McInnis, but my friends call me Kristy. I am blogging to you from Portland, Oregon where I was born and raised. In the fall I will be heading back to Oregon State University as a sophomore double majoring in Merchandising Management and Apparel Design. I will be working for the second year at DAMchic, a student ran fashion and lifestyle magazine. The state of Oregon has set itself on the fashion map by being home to companies such as Nike, adidas, Pendleton and Columbia. We are also surrounded by many amazing men and women with wonderful fashion sense.

In my free time I am with friends in search of trendy coffee shops, eating any fresh soft pretzel with mustard in sight or watching the sixth season of gossip girl for the 10th time (Blake Lively is a goddess). I have a mild shopping addiction so naturally, anything with a big red sale sign is probably where you will find me. My personal style changes as quickly as the Oregon weather. Some days I want to amp up the glam and wear a red lip and some strappy heels to go out, while others I want to be casual and throw on my ripped boyfriend jeans and a good hYOUman T-shirt.

Being a college student, in rainy ole’ Oregon is sometimes a challenge. At all times you have to be able to whip out the umbrella or dodge a mud puddle. The trick to living here my whole life has been layering. You must have staples so you can build the look and also keep warm. Accessories are key to adding your own twist to an outfit. My mother had a direct impact on my fashion sense, but she is still my go to girl. My style is also impacted by fashion icons, art and social media. Having fun with clothing and adding my own flare with unique pieces is what sets me apart.

For this look, I pared a navy printed jumpsuit, with a faux cutout leather jacket. I tend to lean towards statement pieces that could actually be used as a weapon, so I wore my flashy superhero silver cuff. To make the jumpsuit and cuff bracelet stand out, I added a nude heel and kept the hair sleek. I am so excited to be part of a blogging community with the same love of fashion and photography that I have. Here’s to an amazing semester and I look forward to showing you the trends around campus and the Portland area.
