Hello my fellow Fashionistas/os ! My name is Kristyn Edwards and I am so elated to be a Style Guru this Summer for CollegeFashionista! I’m currently a junior at The University of Alabama majoring in Fashion Merchandising. I’m apart of the Student Merchandising and Design Association on campus, as well as a fashion and lifestyle writer for Alice Magazine. I’ve loved fashion ever since I could remember. When I was six I started drawing my own sketches, and having my own fashion shows in my living room. Growing up, while most kids my age were watching Nickelodeon and Disney Channel, I was watching the latest runway shows on The Style Network, and reading Teen Vogue. When I graduate I hope to become a buyer or a personal stylist in luxury sales and later open up my own boutique of contemporary fashion. When I’m not at work or school, you can catch me traveling, going to a concert or binge-watching a Netflix series!
I’ve always been intrigued by fashion from the past and how everything comes full circle when it comes to trends. A lot of my inspiration from my looks come from old TV shows such as: Different World and Sex And The City. I’d describe myself as a modern day Lisa Bonet because my personal style is very free, and I really just wear whatever I feel is right at the moment. Some days you may catch me being boho-chic, edgy or very sophisticated-it all just depends on how I feel when I wakeup that day! I work at a local contemporary boutique here in Tuscaloosa so most of the time I’m dressed up, but I enjoy it because I’m able to showcase my personal style everyday at work. The outfit that I’m wearing is something that I’d wear on an outing with my friends or to a music festival.
I’m wearing a two-piece set that I purchased on my recent trip to New York City, along with these gladiator sandals that are perfect for the summertime! When it comes to accessories, I love a statement necklace, like the one I have on. Statement necklaces can really take your look to the next level. I decided to also wear this new purse that I purchased from Target it literally goes with everything, and I’m a girl who loves a big purse to complete her everyday look.
I’m so excited about this upcoming semester, and I can’t wait to showcase how us Fashionistas/os do it in the south. I also can’t wait to connect with other fellow Style Gurus from different schools and see everyones looks! If you want to see how us fashionable Southern Belles and beaus do it in Alabama, stay tuned!
