Twenty-one years young and living the best of both worlds: with a small town, Pennsylvania country heart, shared with the mindset to be an LAX fashion icon. I’m a big believer that anyone’s life ambitions are possible as long as hard work is put in to make them happen.
As a young girl I had always planned my future to be simple. Grow up, get married and have children. Those were the easy days, when that’s all that you thought there was to growing up. Reality struck soon though when I was sitting in my English class, junior year of high school, faced with the question as to what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. I had thought about this question a few times before this, but never enough to give someone a definite answer. Out of worry and anxiety I immediately started searching for my future career. I started writing down all the possibilities out there for me. Teaching, exercise science, interior design, I even had cosmetology jotted down in my notes. Deep down I knew none of these things were anything I wanted to do with my future, but I didn’t think that what I wanted to do mattered…just as long as I got a good job and made money.
Starting into my senior year, in a casual conversation, someone asked me, “So, what do you want to do after high school?” It was in that casual conversation when I realized, my future was not already planned, that I had complete control over MY future. What I do after high school should be what I want to do and what I enjoy to do. So, what was my answer to that person’s question? Fashion.
Since that day I haven’t looked back. I applied and am now a student at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and majoring in fashion merchandising with a minor in marketing. I am so excited to be a fall 2016 Style Guru. I cannot wait to read and share stories with one another about our journeys to making it in the fashion world. To all my fellow Fashionistas/os out here, good luck and stay rad!
