Hello! The lovely girl you see above is me, Laura. Born and raised in the DMV (the D.C., MD, and VA area, not the Department of Motor Vehicles, but wouldn’t that be a great introduction?). I’m a sophomore at Manhattanville College. Still officially undeclared, I am exploring various areas I may want to pursue like as Music Business, Marketing, Communications and Digital Media Production. This is one of the main reasons why I am excited to contribute to CollegeFashionista! In addition to being a Style Guru Intern, I also intern at a public relations and music media company in NYC! I am super involved on campus, being a member of the dance ensemble, film club, Emerging Leaders program and Mentor program! I am a campus correspondent of Manhattanville’s HerCampus chapter and Top 200 Music Director of MVL Radio “The Pulse,” Manhattanville’s student-run radio station!
Now you may be asking yourself, “How did I become a Fashionista?” Well, as with most stories, it all began during those innocent, playful childhood years. Whether it was their lovely hair or absence of actual feet, my childhood toys of choice were Bratz dolls! Adamantly choosing to play with Bratz dolls over Barbies (shamelessly lip-syncs to “Barbie Girl” by Aqua), I ignited my fervent passion for fashion!
Over the years, my style has evolved tremendously. The little girl who once was once obsessed with the color pink grew to despise it. There was a brief period in elementary school where I only wore Disney character shirts. Then came the pre-skinny jean days where bedazzled flare jeans and jean skirts were the norm! This was followed by my scene phase, the slightly preppy phase and the “I only wear jeans and a T-shirt” mantra. Now my style is an amalgamation of everything—an eclectic mix of anything that catches my eye, whether or not it’s trendy. It often varies day by day and the root lies in what would be my tragic flaw if this were a tragedy: my stubborn indecisiveness.
That is why I chose this look for my first article and also for my first day of sophomore year: a comfortable dressy casual look. The dark wash jeans are from H&M and only cost $9.95! The totally awesome elephant T-shirt and the reason why I received so many compliments on my first day, was purchase at Marshalls and was less than six dollars! Accessories include a Glee bracelet purchased from Claire’s my freshman year of high school, a rubber rainbow bracelet and a beaded bracelet from my mother.
Being granted this opportunity to write about fashion, something so creative and diverse, provides me with a wonderful group of fellow Fashionistas to learn and take inspiration from! I will also be able to craft my writing skills on a platform that is full of support and feedback!
I hope you thought this article was RAD! Please check back often to read even more of my and other fellow style guru’s articles!
