Hi fellow fashion lovers! My name is Laurel Kreuter but I typically go by “Lo.” I am freshman at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. I’d be lying to you if I was I wasn’t ecstatic about living in Manhattan. I’m originally from a small town outside of Detroit, Michigan, and I can successfully say that I am living my dream. I am trying to take in the city day by day and experience the diverse fashion scene of all the city’s inhabitants including the students on my campus.
My dream job is to become a fashion journalist. My aspirations in life are to be the next Leandra Medine of Man Repeller or Sarah Harris of British Vogue. I love writing with all my heart and the thing that really gets my blood pumping is the conversation of fashion. I am majoring in advertising and marketing communications with the hope to have my own company one day or magazine column. But for now, CollegeFashionista will hopefully act as a great foundation for my future.
I love to get my hands on anything and everything vintage. I’m an old soul and a big fan of the ’60s and ’70s fashion scene. I take a lot of my outfit inspiration from famous rock ‘n’ roll groupies such as Pamela Des Barres, Anita Pallenberg and Marianne Faithfull. I love when outfits aren’t totally clean and put together, but colorful and unexpected. I try to incorporate that sense of fashion into the new modern age of ripped jeans and off-the-shoulder tops. Another reason why I love vintage pieces is because there is always a story behind them. I like finding things that are one of a kind.
I’m wearing a vintage Brooks leather jacket from the mid-1970s that was made in my hometown. The JFK pin is vintage from my Grandma’s jewelry box and the necktie is vintage Gucci from the ’70s as well. The bodysuit underneath is by American Apparel, and the jeans are from American Eagle Outfitters but I cut them to give them a more rugged look, as well as sewing the word “home” into the back pocket just for fun. My shoes are from Zara.
Styling clothes is my chance to show who I am. My jacket could tell you that I’m into vintage, but my shoes could tell you that I just read the last Man Repeller article on how to style heels. It’s all a big melting pot for me that I get to put different ingredients in everyday. And I’m always excited for what the result is that I come out with, and I hope that you are too. Stay tuned on my page for more outfits or concoctions that I come up with. Follow me on Twitter or my Instagram to see my new adventure in NYC and the style that I come across.
