Hello my fellow Fashionistas! I am Lauren Lanham, and I am a junior at Indiana University. I am majoring in political science and journalism with a concentration in public relations and advertising. I am also working towards two minors, one in Spanish and another in international studies. My hobbies include Indiana University Dance Marathon, traveling and shopping! Â This is my first semester as a Style Guru, and I am very excited for this opportunity!
Growing up the oldest of four girls, I quickly learned the importance of creating my own unique style that would help me stand out in a crowd. What I love about fashion is that it allows for individual expression. In a world where so many people try to fit in, fashion allows us to break out and be different. Find something that you love, and turn it into a wardrobe!
Over the years, I have had opportunities to travel throughout the United States, Europe, parts of Mexico and the Caribbean. During my travels I gained a strong passion for many different cultures. I wanted to find a way to keep this passion with me when I returned home. Fashion allowed me to do that. Everywhere I go I make it a point to find a local, handmade piece that I can add to my wardrobe. My favorite piece still to this day is a beautiful handmade shawl I bought in the streets of Puerto Rico.
Fashion is all round us. I love how it connects people and finds way to create conversation between strangers. To me, fashion is so much more than a killer sense of style. Its self-expression and perhaps our greatest communication tool.
