I am thrilled and excited to be a part of such a wonderful community of fashion and beauty lovers. My name is Lauren Owens and I am a junior Fashion Merchandising student at Kent State University in Ohio. I grew up just outside of Atlanta, Georgia, and when I heard about Kent’s awarded fashion program I had to take the leap and come. Being 700 miles away from home has really changed my outlook on traveling, fashion trends around the country, and culture altogether.
I knew the world fashion was for me from the first time I went shopping with my mom in downtown Atlanta. Then, when I first watched the famous movie The Devil Wears Prada, with the scene where the fabulous Anne Hathaway walks through the streets in New York, I knew this was for me.
Now, those may seem to be on the more couture and designer market segments, but personally I have found that I tend to lean more on the relaxed, effortless-beauty side of styling. The best way I can describe my style would be classically artsy. I used to be very involved in the fine arts before venturing into thinking of merchandising for a career path, so my old ways still influence me quite a bit from when I used to go to galleries and then back to the painting studio. However, I am a huge advocate for having staple pieces that really make a wardrobe that are timeless and can be carried throughout the years (i.e. LBD, neutral leather jacket, Oxford shirt).
With this opportunity, I hope to explore my style more, go outside my norm, and inspire others to explore new possibilities with their daily wardrobe, beauty routines, and all around lifestyle. For today’s look, I am wearing one of my go-to outfits when it comes to going to class, a casual work outfit, and a date outfit all in one. I am wearing a lightweight turtleneck shirt, skinny jeans, a cute little heal bootie with fringe, a tartan blanket scarf, and a black leather bag to tie it all together.
