Spaniard, Hoosier… Denverite? As my final lap with CollegeFashionista draws near, I’m ecstatic to be able to explore yet another city’s style scene. From corduroy crops in Beijing, to sisterly style in Seville, to fashion bloggers, entrepreneurs, and everyday Fashionistas in my college hometown of Bloomington, I’ve had the chance to see a lot. But I haven’t seen it all.
A rising senior at Indiana University, I am completing my degrees in Journalism and Spanish, with a couple of extra classes thrown in there—Fashion History and The Music of the Beatles, here I come! As an extrovert who also enjoys alone time, I love equally going out on the town with friends and curling up alone for the night with a good book or a binge session of Friends. Sending and receiving postcards, taking road trips and exploring new places, watching cute puppy videos, hiking, skiing, making and eating brunch at cute, cozy spots, and enjoying a hot cappuccino score high on my favorites list. Party planning is one of my specialties, which might explain why I get excited over new planners and home decorations.
Though my lack of flannel and primarily black outfits with Michael Kors heels peeping out at the bottom tend to give me away here, I’ve toted along my backpack and hiking boots to even it out. I’m ready for the style stars of Denver to teach me a thing or two about Western fashion. Cheetah print has become a bit of a signature for me, and can be found sprinkled throughout my closet, my purse, and my bedroom (still on the lookout for bumper stickers to cheetah-fy my car). I believe a solid leather jacket and a pair of favorite party shoes are essential to everyone’s closet. Since my last bio and after eight long years, I’ve finally chopped my 20 plus inches of hair to just above my shoulders, channeling my inner Anna Wintour. It is my mission, as it is in every city, to track down the coolest vintage and thrift stores in the area, and hey, maybe by the end of the summer I’ll even be sporting a Rockies ball cap to pledge my love to the city.
I recently stumbled upon a little wooden postcard in a Nashville shop that now hangs in my room. It reads: “Wish. Do.” As summer begins and you take advantage of all the opportunity it holds, take a moment to also “do” with you wardrobe. Wear that funky piece you bought at the thrift store. Wear the heels even though they make your already tall frame just a little taller. Try the blue eyeliner or ask your hairdresser to give you a new ‘do. Do, don’t wish. Cheers to a fun, fearless summer!
