Hello! Ok… let’s cut to the chase. My name is Leah, and this August I will officially be a transfer student at the beautiful College of Charleston. You may be wondering, “Where did you go to school before you transferred?” Well, I completed my freshman year at Montclair State University in New Jersey. This past year I have made so many amazing friends at MSU; however, I decided to start a new chapter in the “Book of Leah.” Instead of majoring in business marketing, I will be studying historic preservation and community planning (woohoo!)
Another “you may be wondering” moment just arrived, right? You’re probably curious what on earth made me change majors. Well, it is time to travel back in time *cue Twilight Zone music*.
To make sense of my crazy life, let me narrow down a list of my favorite hobbies and interests: dance, fashion (i.e. sewing, trend-spotting, shopping), architecture (designing, HGTV binging) and music (finding new bands, going to concerts).
For as long as I can remember, I wanted to be an architect. I excelled in my high school design classes and even taught myself programs on the side—I know it’s cool, right? However, I went through kind of a rough patch my junior and senior year and gave up on this dream of mine. On the other hand, I have always had a passion for music and the fashion world.
My dream school became FIT in New York City. I wanted to study advertising and marketing communications with a focus in music so I could become an A&R person at a big record label. Fast forward a few months of utter stress during my senior year of high —I was accepted. Unfortunately being an out-of-stater made that dream unaffordable. Thus, I attended MSU.
Though I was pretty angsty about not attending my dream school, not going to FIT was the best decision ever. I realized that I actually missed architecture and its impact on my life. Being that my family moved from New Jersey to South Carolina, I decided to start studying at one of the most architecturally and historically rich cities in the country. I told myself fashion and music can still be a massive part of my life even if I’m not majoring in it at a university.
This is the part of my story where CollegeFashionista comes in. I am incredibly happy to have a place to express my love of fashion. I hope my academic career and artistic background inspire my fashion sense and that all of you reading this can join me on the crazy ride that is my life! In my upcoming posts, I hope you appreciate my unique style that is reminiscent of my own architectural background along with my love of music, culture and my shallow wallet.
