Greetings my fellow humans! My name is Leah Chase and I am a rising junior Public Relations major at Howard University from Brooklyn, New York. This is my first semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista and I am really excited about completing this project!
First and foremost, I wanted to do this internship to exercise discipline in my writing delivery. My life and work ethic match my style which is all over the place. Being a part of CollegeFashionista would put my big city and school in perspective for my readers to see them through my eyes as this is a great opportunity for me to express them all to you. I would like everyone I encounter to have some sort of understanding of what I like, think is important or why I do the things I do. Now, here’s a little bit more about myself and today’s outfit.
I have six brothers and five sisters (only two of my sisters are older than me). One of my younger brothers had the second biggest influence on my sense of style, so I have a habit of buying clothes from the boys’ department. I have a tendency to buy clothes that are just entirely too big for me (because I’d always end up taking his when I was growing up), and pairing them with sneakers. Even though I think I transitioned out of my tomboy ways, I still feel so much more confident in my boyish outfits.
Oversized items just look better when thrown together than any of my “girly” clothes would. My outfit today is effortless, comfortable, but still stylish. My attire features my flannel from the Ralph Lauren boys’ department finished off by my favorite sneakers. My shirt was a holiday feature (hence the colorway), but you can pretty much get a plaid flannel from anywhere. L.L.Bean has quality flannels for great prices.
I have also always hated combing my hair. Many days, I leave my bantu knots in and put on a bold outfit with earrings to complement them or simply throw on a chic hat. Today’s “hide my hair” accessory is my favorite hat from Urban Outfitters. A simple flat top boater hat boldly completes every outfit I pair it with, even sweats and a denim jacket!
In addition my family is from Guyana and big on sewing/designing. I wasn’t gifted with their talents, but I sure can take them apart. I’m a DIY kind of person which brings us to my jeans with me failing at distressing/cutting them changes any outfit that would be a casual look with basic black jeans to grunge and punk. However, if you feel more comfortable buying them already cut, here is a good pair.
I hope this helped you learn a little about me. I look forward to a successful semester connecting with you all!
