Who run the world? Style Gurus.
Hi everyone, I’m Leah! I’m a senior at Penn State University with majors in sociology and media studies. These two majors have come together exceptionally well to help me explore how people interact in the online world and how it has opened the door to learning how to incorporate fashion and photography into that online communication.
Though I have grown up a lot since I first got to college, one thing that has always stayed constant with me is my absolute passion for fashion. Coming from a small farm town in central Pennsylvania with less than 100 students in my high school class, trends didn’t get to us too quickly. However, this slight isolation from the fashion world didn’t stop me. My earliest memories from elementary school include putting on fashion shows for my parents, doing makeovers with friends and playing fashion designer games on my ever so handy Gameboy Advance. Since America’s Next Top Model premiered when I was in third grade, I have been a dedicated fan and developed an obsession with runway looks and photo shoots (this is how photography became a hobby of mine). Of course, I went through the awkward middle school phase where I now look back at some of my “trendy” outfits and wonder why my mother let me out of the house. I have carried this love of expressing myself through style through all of these years and I cannot express how ready I am to spread my ideas through a blog.
I’ve always had the idea in my head that clothes are not “just clothes.” They are more than pieces of fabric that cover you when you go out in public, they are the way you brand yourself. All of the people that you see on your every day adventures have no clue who you are or what you are like. The way you dress is a way to express yourself without even speaking a word to a stranger (spoken perfectly in Meryl Streep’s monologue in The Devil Wears Prada)
My outfit today includes two staple wardrobe pieces: high waisted denim shorts and a black halter top that can be worn for literally any occasion. This was paired with a trendy double buckle belt and statement necklace to add some modern pizazz to a classic outfit.
I wouldn’t say that I have one particular style—my closet is filled with everything from leather motorcycle jackets and ripped shirts to cutesy pink dresses. However, I would say that all of my styles have a grunge theme to them. I always love to darken an outfit and make it a little more “bad” and mysterious.
Feel free to follow me or start a conversation! No, seriously. Please talk to me. I absolutely live for discussing fashion and making friends who have the same passion!
