STYLE GURU BIO: Lily Lee

Hello, I am Lily Lee. I am a Communications major at Rutgers University and I am specializing in Public Relations and minoring in Digital Communications Information & Media. I loved interning for CollegeFashionista during the summer and jumped at the opportunity to return as a Style Guru this fall! CollegeFashionista has impacted my growth as a blogger tremendously and exposed me to the fascinating ideals of fashion. If you are interested in trying something new, I would highly recommend starting a blog and/or applying be a Style Guru. This experience brought my interests and passions to light.

I was born in New York but lived in New Jersey for my entire life. I moved twice in my life, but home will always be wherever my family members (and my mom’s, aunt’s and grandmother’s home-cooked meals) are at. I enjoy eating, exploring nature and playing card/boardgames with my family and friends. In my alone time, I love to read, write and exercise.

When deciding what to wear, my outfit choices gravitate towards girly styles. I used to wear a lot of tight form-fitting clothes, like what I am wearing here. Later on, I realized I felt too constricted. Those clothes are better for special occasions, like if I am trying to make a good impression and look more business-casual. I’m inspired by outfits that have “flow” to them. Off-the-shoulder tops and loose funky styles that are expressive are my favorite.

Wear what makes you free and imaginative. You don’t know what style works for you until you try it. I personally don’t have a specific fashion trend for my looks but I work with what I have. I like to play around with the different combinations with the clothes I’ve accumulated throughout the years. Fashion should be something we do for fun. Mess around a bit, liven up a bit! Just have fun with it and don’t take fashion too seriously—especially if you have other things you should be focusing on, like your hobbies, homework and plans for the future. Even though we do need to dress to make good impressions at times, it’s important to remember that who you and how you treat others is more important than the clothes you wear.
