Hey Fashionistas! This is my first post on CollegeFashionista as a Style Guru, and I couldn’t be more excited! My name is Lindsay Hitrys and I’m a junior Textile Merchandising and Design major with a minor in Art at the University of Rhode Island. I am from Massachusetts. Outside of my studies, I am part of the Greek life community on campus. Although I am a member of a sorority, I would not categorize my style choices or myself as “a typical sorority girl.” According to my friends I have a “unique” style due to my love for scrunchies and wearing Birkenstocks, no matter what the weather may be. One of my favorite accessories is one most wouldn’t expect—socks. I can always be found wearing fun and cozy, yet outfit complimenting socks. Many of my friends call my closet “Lindsay’s Boutique.”
Last winter I went on a 10-day trip though my major spending five days in London and five in Paris. While we were there, we had the opportunity to visit different well-known boutiques, design studios, brand name stores and fashion museums. Just being in those atmospheres changed my view on fashion. That being said, this coming semester I will be studying abroad in Florence, Italy. While traveling throughout Europe (and shopping of course) I know that I will pick up on other style trends, developing my own sense of style further, and learning about fashion in another country.
When people ask me why I chose the major I’m in and how I knew I wanted to one day be in the Fashion industry, I don’t have a specific answer. I tell people that I just always knew that what I wanted to do. To explain that further: when I was in elementary, middle and high school we would write a letter to ourselves that we were to receive once we graduated high school. Each of them had the question: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” each of them had the same answer: “Something to do with fashion”.
I’m looking forward to reading the other Style Gurus blogs and learning what inspires their styles!
