STYLE GURU BIO: Liza Sakhaie

“Believe in your flyness…conquer your shyness” said the one and only king of fly himself, Yeezus, aka Kanye. This motto has become my guide to every relationship, every struggle and every outfit and I couldn’t be more excited to share this passion for “flyness” with all of you through this amazing platform.

I look forward to every day for one of many reasons: the ability to choose a new outfit and express myself through it. Although I definitely have a wide variety of clothing, my staple throughout would have to be a leather jacket. I stubbornly wear one throughout the winter—I live in New York—even if it’s below 20 degrees and should probably be bundled up in a Canada Goose. And when summer comes along, I have a new collection of lighter jackets to bring out that I wear upon my shoulders to keep from overheating.

I also live for a good pair of sneakers. It’s no surprise to anyone to see me with a dress and sneakers on, considering I’m 5’9 and don’t have to deal with the pain of heels. Even though I match up my sneakers with literally anything, my favorite outfit always seems to include a great pair of skinny jeans. Each pair I buy has it’s own distinctive original feature, whether it’s plaid patches across the knees or zippers on the ankles.

Some days I might be feeling a bit lazy and you’ll catch me in some printed leggings or a cute pair of joggers, but you will never catch me without jewelry on. I change up my arm party every day and have more necklaces than I could count because I truly believe that jewelry is the final touch that completes every look.

I’m currently a freshman studying at NYU, making every day the perfect chance to dress up. Living in one of the fashion capitals of the world allows me to embrace my style and share it with those around me, even if it is the three strangers locked up in the library with me on the last day of finals. Having every store at my fingertips (considering I am a 10 minute walk away from the heart of SoHo) can sometimes be more of a challenge than a gift, but I couldn’t be more grateful for the city I live in. Right now I’m majoring in marketing and will probably change my mind about that another 100 times before I graduate; but all I know is that I want to work with people that are passionate and innovative and believe in the power of the individual, as well as the power of a great outfit.

Follow me as I finish my first year living in this fashion capital, exploring this city, its fashion diversity and its opportunities.
