Hello fashion lovers! It’s Madeline and I currently attend Marymount Manhattan College in the heart of the bustling borough. I’ve always been in love with the city but I am a Hoosier at heart. Growing up I lived on a farm—yes, the Indiana stereotype is true, there is nothing but cornfield after cornfield. Alas I have left my small town of 1600 people to 1.7 million people in NYC to study dance with body, science, and motion at Marymount Manhattan College in New York City.
I have been obsessed with fashion ever since I was little when I was glitzed and glamoured up in competition dance at the age of five. At five I was dressing up in costumes and applying fake eyelashes, so you could say I’ve always been a little ahead for my age. After I was forced into a Catholic school uniform for middle school, I busted into high school with a whole new appreciation for what I wore every day and took a little inspiration from Gaga and her twist from uniforms to mad style. I can’t define my style into a word or two because I enjoy it all. One day I can be head to toe in sweats and Adidas then the next in a cute little dress with sparkly high heels. Being an aspiring dancer I take a lot of my paychecks to Lululemon Athletica, so many days I go without wearing “real” clothes like jeans and sweaters and switch them out for leggings and leotards.
The best part about New York is that you can express yourself however you would like then either no one cares or they are inspired. Walking through SoHo or the Village, I leave so motivated to take my outfits to the next level. Living on the Upper East Side I get a taste of everything from the fit moms who visit Equinox every other day or the models who casually walk by in their high fashion shoot-ready outfits. Already living in New York for the past five months has given me a whole new perspective and confidence that I can’t wait to share with you Fashionistas!
