Hey there and happy 2017!
I’m Madison Carter and I’m super stoked to be starting off the new year as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista. This is my first semester with CollegeFashionista and only my second semester of college, so I’m still learning all of the ropes of time management and schooling in general. Before I continue on, one huge disclaimer that I must lay out is that I’m a Michigan native that attends The Ohio State University. I know the fact is troubling to some (trust me, I’ve seen so many surprised looks), but Ohio State truly is a home away from home and I’ve been able to incorporate my passion for fashion into my life there. After being undecided on a major for the first semester of college, I finally am on the path to major in marketing with a minor in fashion and retail studies, which just shows how much of a role fashion plays in my life.
From hearing stories about my mom attending runway shows in New York, to ordering my first subscription of Teen Vogue, my interest in the world of fashion, and what it has to offer, started at a really young age. Even though I look back at old pictures and question why I was allowed to leave the house, I know that my adolescent self was trying to express a developing personality, while having fun doing so. My sense of what is acceptable to wear and what is not has surely enhanced since my Limited Too days, but my aspiration to express myself through my clothing is something I hope I never lose. To me, it doesn’t matter if you don’t own the trendy Stuart Weitzman boots or if you sometimes rock the gray on gray look to class, because when it comes down to it, fashion is truly meant to be what you want it to be at that particular time.
With that being said, my style typically consists of complimenting my favorite pair of black skinny jeans and suede booties with either a chunky vest, as pictured above, or an oversized sweater. Then, to add a little more chic to my look I especially rely on my wrist hardware and wrap choker because I wouldn’t be complete without them. Finding the right accessories is my favorite way to effortlessly finish putting together an outfit in a matter of a few seconds, which is perfect for a girl (me) who always manages to put herself in a time crunch. So basically, comfort with class sums up what I aim to incorporate into what I’m wearing on the daily!
I’m so eager to see where CollegeFashionista takes me this semester and hopefully a lot of new trends surface within the next few months. Be sure to check out my Instagram to see the Fashionistas/os here at Ohio State! Go bucks!
