STYLE GURU BIO: Maggie McCartin

What’s up, fashionable people!

My name is Maggie McCartin, and I am a Style Guru scoping out the latest and greatest fashion trends from the most beautiful city in the world, Charleston, SC. I am currently a junior communications major and marketing minor with a focus on fashion PR at the College of Charleston, and am extremely excited to be a part of the CF community this semester. Although my passion for fashion didn’t evolve until I was older, I have been exposed to so many great opportunities here in Charleston, since I moved down here in the fall of 2014 from my hometown in Silver Spring, MD.

One of these amazing opportunities has been Charleston Fashion Week, which I volunteered at last spring, and cannot wait to continue participating in as it continues to grow every year. It wasn’t until I partook in this event that I truly understood the unique, progressing fashion scene that the Holy City has of its own. When people think about Charleston, they think about Lily Pulitzer and Vineyard Vines galore, but I am here to show you how us trendy college kids really strut our stuff on these old, cobble stone streets every day. I am a firm believer that when one looks good, they feel good too, and I, for one, like to feel good about myself because who wouldn’t, right?

My style definitely lies on the boho-chic side of the style spectrum, but I am always open to experimenting with new bold trends that may take me outside of my comfort zone. My go-to outfit would be anything that you can dress up or down, which is why I chose to wear my favorite white T-shirt, Zara high-waisted shorts, Forever 21 blazer and lace heels. Paired with a gold cuff, hoops and some shades, and I’m ready to take on any day in this magnificent palm tree-infested city. Although I have expensive taste, as my parents love to remind me, I have a keen eye for great clothing finds for the best prices. Thrift stores have become my best friend over the past few years, and to anyone who hasn’t been to one, I will gladly introduce you two to each other.

With that being said, when I am not browsing King Street for my latest fashion fix, you can find me eating at one of the local sandwich shops, Persimmons, running my sorority Delta Gamma’s social media accounts, or serving cocktails on the rooftop of the Grand Bohemian Hotel. I am also thrilled to be a part of College of Charleston’s Love Your Melon campus crew this semester, where I will be raising money to help fund pediatric cancer research and improve the lives of children battling cancer. Make sure to look out for some of the Love Your Melon apparel I will be featuring in my articles to come, and don’t forget to stay RAD.
