STYLE GURU BIO: Maggie Small

Hi everyone! My name is Maggie, and I’m a sophomore at Bowdoin College in Maine! I’m so excited to be a Style Guru with CollegeFashionista this semester. I have always loved fashion ever since I was a little girl. My mom is a big part of why I love fashion so much. We would spend time shopping together, and those moments have bonded us even closer together than we already are.

I was different from my friends because I played with dolls a lot longer than other people my age. I fell in love with dressing them up and transferred that love to my real friends. At my boarding school in Rhode Island, girls would have me come into their rooms in the mornings to help them decide what to wear.

I have always been interested in the latest trends and looks I spy out on the streets and on campus. Since I go to college in Maine, the weather can be unpredictable. It goes from sunny and 60 degrees to low 20s in a matter of days, and because of this I’m able to wear all different kinds of clothes. I spend the winters in warm chunky sweaters and big parka jackets, but the spring and fall are a mix between jean shorts and cozy vests.

For this look, I decided to pick something that I would wear every day in the winter. I would never leave my room without my green Michael Kors parka or my fur pom-pom hat. Layers are so important, so underneath my parka is a Brandy Melville zip-up and thermal long sleeve shirt. I recently went into New York City while I was home over winter break. My mom and I woke up at 5:45 a.m. to catch a 6:30 a.m. train into the city, where we would take the subway to the Brandy Melville warehouse sale! The two of us had so much fun rummaging through boxes and stuffing the clothes we found into trash bags. I would say that I don’t have a specific style that I am constantly wearing. I love the simple clothes from Brandy Melville, but I also can not get enough of the fun pieces I see at Free People.

I decided to wear my black Zara ripped knee jeans because that has been a look I’ve seen across campus. The rip, just in the knee, makes the pants not so distressed but the perfect pant to wear to class or on the weekend nights.

Lastly, my sneakers are the most classic thing I would be found wearing. New Balance sneakers are easily my favorite shoe ever made. Fun fact: my feet are so small that I can fit in the boys shoes and spend less money on my sneaks! They are so comfy and casual, but they’re also a style that has become very popular in the last couple years.

I can’t wait for this semester with CollegeFashionista and look forward to exploring the trends I find on campus!
