Hello Fashionistas/os! My name is Malika Virk and I am thrilled to be a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista. I am currently a student of the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. I am planning on majoring in marketing and management with the hope of eventually transitioning into the business side of the fashion industry.
Ever since I was a little girl, I loved fashion. From the towering, strikingly beautiful models to the carefully detailed designer gowns, I was enchanted by the fashion industry and I longed to be a part of it. I grew up sketching outrageous outfits, dreaming of becoming a fashion designer. Unfortunately, this dream was quickly crushed due to my lack of artistic abilities. Instead, I channeled my creative mindset into dressing my dolls in elaborate outfits and putting on fashion shows for my family.
As I grew older, fashion became an essential outlet in my life and I treated every day with the mentality of “dressing for success.” I would spend hours in front of my closet trying to piece together the perfect ensemble. In my opinion, the most important part of putting together an outfit is in the details, such as whether or not to add a statement necklace or to wear heels. To me, putting together a runaway ready outfit is a skill that is constantly challenged by new trends and styles.
Being on a campus filled with thousands of people from different backgrounds, I am exposed to a variety of different Fashionistas/os every day. I look forward to meeting these people and sharing my love for fashion with not only them, but also with you.
