Hey Fashionistas! I’m Mandisa, a junior Public Relations major at Syracuse University. I’m super pumped to start off my second semester at CollegeFashionista this fall.
When it comes to my style, I’m really into black, denim and subtle accessories. I like to make a statement by not making a statement. I wear what looks and feels good on me. This means that sometimes I’ll wear something very trendy and other times I’ll wear something simplistic. I’m not a fan of embracing or rejecting a specific piece just because it’s deemed too popular or not popular enough. For me, fashion is about expression, mood, comfort, happiness and confidence.
My inspiration comes from street fashion, especially photos I find through social media platforms like Pinterest and Instagram. These platforms have helped me hone my style by allowing me to see what I really like on others. By helping me hone my style, these platforms have also given me the confidence to start my own blog and YouTube channel.
For this look, I’m staying true to my roots with a grey T-shirt and black jeans. These core pieces are like my uniform because they’re so versatile. Next I have a boyfriend denim jacket and my favorite platform ankle booties. I’m obsessed with both the booties and the jacket because they bring personality and edge to any outfit I style. I topped this outfit off with a black, wide brim straw fedora and a black vintage leather backpack that I borrowed from my mom’s closet. This look is the essence of my style. It’s the perfect culmination of all my favorite colors and textures.
In my 20 years of life, I’ve never had a more solid stance on my style. I’ve found that knowing who I am and what I want to express through my clothes has given me a deeper confidence in my sense of style. As A$AP Rocky says, “Fashion is almost like a religion. I get it, I identify with it. It’s just one of those things that I’m into. I can’t help that I know it. It’s like subconscious.” I can’t wait to share my new sense of style as well as another semester of fashion and blogging with everyone here at CollegeFashionista. Be sure to check back here on the first of every month for a new post!
