My name is Mariana DeBare and I am a junior at Brown University studying evolutionary biology and visual arts. I am most often seen taking photographs. My subject matter includes anything from humpback whales in the sweet summer to staged portraits throughout the year. I would classify my portrait work as experimental, as I have not yet forged a specific style—Free People florals, cozy turtlenecks, and elegant peacoats all make an appearance within my photos.
My fashion sense is much like my photography style—dynamic and transitional, filled with phases. One month it is denim on denim and the next it is all about that red sleeveless dress. I do, however, have some continuity. I am partial to stripes as opposed dots; muted blues, purples, and nudes make up a majority of my closest. It is generally guaranteed that I will be sporting one of five pairs of black boots with at least two inches of ground clearance. Layers are my best friend, as they add flare to any outfit.Â
The attire above is a combination of the practical, the comfortable, and the personal. Let us start with the practical and the comfortable. I am wearing a pair of Steve Madden boots. They are reliable, long-lasting, and, you guessed it, comfortable. My turtleneck was purchased eight years ago… by my mother. It couples the practical with the personal. If you have a chance, and they are alright with it, check out your parents’ closet—you may find some fun styles just waiting for a makeover! The skirt pictured represents a fashion trend that I consider timeless. Since I am just over five feet, long and flowing skirts accentuate the lines in my body, making me appear taller. My necklace is another hand-me-down from my mother. Accessories, whether or not they are from friends or family, personalize any outfit, and in my opinion, add the “you” to your wardrobe of choice.
