Hi everyone! My name is Marisa, and I’ll be a sophomore at North Carolina State University this year. I’m currently studying fashion and textile management and minoring in both economics and business administration. This will be my first semester writing as a Style Guru, and I am so excited! Fall is my favorite season for fashion and just everyday life. I can’t wait for a semester of tailgates, cheering on our football team, going to the state fair and most importantly, bundling up in cute and comfy scarves, jackets and booties. I look forward to capturing these style moments and sharing them with you all.
I never think that anyone should conform to only one style for their everyday look. Sometimes you may want to look more urban casual, but other days you might be feeling more bohemian. You can wear a dress one day and your favorite boyfriend jeans the next. Changing up my styles like that is my favorite way to express my personal fashion sense, which differs on a day-to-day basis.
Usually I’ll wear some combination of jeans and a flowy tee, but sometimes I like to dress that look up a little more. I like to think that for this outfit, I have somewhat of a “comfy boho” vibe. Off-the-shoulder tops are really in style right now, and this is one of my favorites. It’s light and simple, but still has some great lacy embroidery details. The jeans are nothing special, just your average slightly distressed skinnies. Normally, you’d rarely see me in heels (I’m already 5’9″ and have been known to walk a little bit like a newborn giraffe in them). However, platform sandals are the absolute best way to add a little height to basic sandals, but still be comfortable and not fall over! I walked all the way across my campus in these (and back), and I wasn’t dying to get them off.
For accessories, I believe that one of the best ways to have a put-together look is to have a great manicure. I paint my nails once a week and chose to go with this blushy nude tone that goes really well with the Steve Madden cross-body bag I’ve been carrying lately. I threw on some simple gold bracelets and hoop earrings to match the gold accents in my bag, and I was good to go. I’m usually not one to pile on jewelry, since it tends to make me feel a little too jingly, but a little touch here and there can go a long way!
I look forward to creating more fun styles and finding more Fashionistas like myself out there throughout the course of this semester!
