Hello Fashionistas/os, and welcome to my first article as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista! My name is Marisa Lima, and I am a senior at the University of Pittsburgh studying Marketing and Portuguese. I am currently the President of the Fashion Business Association at Pitt, and I am so excited to connect my members with all of you Fashionistas, through CollegeFashionista this semester! I am also the most stress free (well, not completely stress free) senior this semester, because I have officially accepted a full time offer from Dick’s Sporting Goods to begin their Merchandising Trainee Program in June!
Fashion has always been a huge passion of mine. Ever since I was five and dressing up my Barbie dolls in my own creations from any scrap fabric I could find in the house, I knew I wanted to be in the fashion industry. I knew I liked pizza, chips and Reese’s too much to become a model someday…plus my Barbie designing days had come to a peak, so I decided I wanted to become a buyer of a top retailer when I grew up (just like Rachel Green from Friends). I am also a people person (I’m the one that makes friends with a complete stranger in Starbucks just because we bought the same exact tall, iced, skinny vanilla latte), so when I learned more about how merchandising and buying involves strong relationships with vendors, I KNEW it was the job for me.
Additionally, I love to write! But, my business degree doesn’t involve too much writing besides your usual business proposal or press release. So, when my fellow Style Guru friends told me about CollegeFashionista, I jumped at it! A place where I can talk about fashion, take fun photos AND write creatively? Yes, please! So, I am very excited to share with all of you my amazing experience being a Style Guru this semester.
My personal style can be described as “eclectic.” I am an advocate of pairing odd pieces and patterns together that, on the hanger, you wouldn’t thing would go together. I love to shop as if I were on a treasure hunt, although lately I am finding myself becoming a bit more “tame” as I quickly approach the adult world. For these reasons, I frequent T.J-Maxx, Urban Outfitters, francesca’s and Altar’d State.
For my Style Guru Bio, I decided to wear something that displays my transitioning style. My favorite part of this outfit is the faux fur vest (which I actually stole from my mother’s closet). I also recently received this kate spade watch for my 22nd birthday. I highly suggest that, if you purchase a nice watch, be sure to choose one that is timeless (no pun intended) and classic. Lastly, you can never go wrong with a comfy oversized flannel, heeled booties to give it a feminine touch and an edgy necklace to give the look some flare.
Well, that’s all for now. Stay tuned for my next article in January!
