Hey there fashion lovers! To begin let me first start off by introducing myself, my name is Marissa Dodd and I am from central Pennsylvania. I am currently a sophomore at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia and studying Business Marketing and Clothing and Textiles. Ever since I can remember I have been interested in fashion. I have gone through many different phases in life, which have resulted in different styles throughout different times of my life, but I always felt like my style was the best way to express myself.
My style is a slightly difficult thing to explain. My mood when I wake up is the determining factor to my outfit for that day! One day I could be seen in a more sophisticated, chic outfit the next day I’m in boho attire from head to toe! I tend to lean toward the more minimalistic style and build my outfits on basic pieces. My passion for fashion (no pun intended) really set off when I got into high school. It was a place where I could reinvent myself. I knew there was so much more in the fashion world so I started buying fashion magazines like Teen Vogue and Seventeen. High school proved to really show me who I was and through my years of high school I realized that I was not meant to be like everyone else and that fashion was something more to me. Some people enjoyed playing sports where as I enjoyed waking up and putting new outfits together every day. I love to try new things with my outfits and make different pieces statements. The more people started to notice, the more I realized that maybe fashion was something I was truly good at.
My first semester of college I became a Teen Vogue It Girl and was able to be involved in some really awesome parties and contests. This past spring semester I was given the opportunity to attend Teen Vogue’s Fashion University as a Business of Fashion major. I stayed in New York City for a weekend where I heard from speakers such as Katherine Power and Hillary Kerr, Jessica Simpson, Jason Wagenheim, Laurie DeJong, Carol Kane, Teen Vogue Editors and Leandra Medine. The experience and the advice that I received from Teen Vogue Fashion University has helped me to really put myself out there and work my way to where I ultimately want to be in life.
To conclude, I am so excited to be a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista this fall semester! I hope to inspire you to be the best you can be and be comfortable being in your own skin. Remember, just like Bill Cunningham stated, “ Fashion is the armor to survive the reality of everyday life.”
