STYLE GURU BIO: Marissa Molitor

Hey guys! My name is Marissa. I am a junior attending Robert Morris University in downtown Chicago, majoring in graphic design for my undergrad. I am also beginning to work on my Master’s degree in management. This is my first semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista, and I could not be any more excited about putting a purpose behind street photography that I so enjoy taking.

I’ve never been one for planning outfits. I tend to wake up in the morning, grab clothes, and run to class, usually ending up late. That being said, I am mostly drawn to necessary basics, ensuring that I don’t mismatch in my rush. I tend to stick to monochromatic colors with simple, if any, accessories. I love anything comfortable and sporty. My love of athletic gear grew from the vast amount of time I spent traveling to games and practices for soccer.

Shawn Ashmore once said, “Style is a reflection of your attitude and your personality,” which is a very accurate statement. How you dress is the first impression that people have of you. If someone were to decide my personality based off of the way that I dress, they would be most likely to say that I am a laid back, simple person—a statement that I would have to agree with.

In Chicago, the weather constantly changes its mind, so you never know if it’s going to be freezing cold or blisteringly hot on your walk to and from class, making layers an essential thing. I layered a gray long sleeve T-shirt under a white puffer vest. For accessories, I looped a light gray knit infinity scarf around my neck for even more warmth. Skinny jeans are an absolute staple in my wardrobe, as my school holds a loose business-casual dress code, making leggings and sweatpants a risky choice. My personal favorite sneaker brand is Adidas, although I chose to feature Nike Free Runs in this outfit instead. The simplistic color scheme makes them really easy to match with anything you can throw together for class. Finally, I have a couple pairs of stud earrings, which I always toss in my ears when I wear my hair up, helping me feel like I’m avoiding the “egg head” look that comes with pulling third-day hair out of my face.

Comfort and simplicity are two key essentials to my style, but through my time spent here at CollegeFashionista, I am excited to explore styles that are outside of my comfort zone by watching other Fashionistas rock them.
