This morning, I woke up to the hectic sounds of the dreadful L.A. traffic. The sky, full of smog, covered the sun that would soon cause my skin to produce melanin. As I walked passed Hollywood and Vine, I took glory in Lana Del Rey’s shining pink and gold star right on the ground next to my camel fringe sandals from Topshop. The chilly breeze flowing through this super comfy, yet classic beige v-neck tank from Urban Outfitters reminded me of the fact that fall was right around the corner.
Although I am not too excited for the cold breeze and pumpkin spiced everything, I’m grateful to be this sun kissed. This fall, I’ll be living in my chill mom jeans from Zara. After admiring the Walk of Fame, I headed over to my grab brunch at Roscoe’s House of Chicken and Waffles. After scarfing down crispy fried chicken, creamy mac and cheese and the fluffiest waffle, I spent the rest of the day meandering around the Hollywood Hills on a celebrity home tour like a real tourist!
I am Mariyesi, born and raised in the Bronx, a junior at Fordham University at Rose Hill pursuing a B.S. in psychology with a minor in communications. New York is my muse and after visiting L.A. this summer, I think I have come to love New York City even more.
My love for style and fashion was cultivated by my mother ever since I was a little bean. Ever since I can remember, shopping was and still is, one of our favorite pastimes. My mother would make sure that I was dolled up as her for any event we were going to whether it was a trip to the grocery store or out for dinner. She instilled in me the idea that I had to look fashionable and exude confidence as a healthy means of self expression.
I was lucky enough to attend a high school with a film program which allowed me to express myself freely through visual mediums such as stop motion film, music videos and short films. I admire film and photography because they are able to capture a story without using words. Every moment of our lives is a small story with a beginning, middle and end. My story has yet to be finished but I hope the excerpt at the beginning gave you some good insight on my life.
