I’m Marquila from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and I’m a Marketing major who commutes to Temple University. This will be my first time writing for CollegeFashionista, so I’m looking forward to being a part of the group.
As a business student, I had to find my niche in a very broad field. The area that interests me the most is the fashion industry as a whole. What I truly enjoy about fashion is the union between art and commerce. It is one of the fields that combine whimsical creativity with strict practicality. And I am, if little else, practical.
If you have to do something for realistic, practical purposes, you may as well enjoy it. So until the Nudist Revolution kicks in and overthrows the world’s governments, I will continue to wear clothing and continue to have some fun each time. With an outfit everyday, we can afford to have a bit of fun every step of the way.
Through the summer I will be exploring the styles of others, while posting more on my own style. I think this particular outfit says a lot about my personal style as a whole. It’s modest, but still youthful in its own way. The modest midi has always been my favorite skirt length, going back before it was the midi and was still just considered frumpy. I couldn’t help myself from adding a bow element somewhere in the look, so I did just that with the schoolgirl shoes with chunky rubber soles. I believe it’s the presence of the funky, thrifted hat and the girly pink socks that turns the outfit into a full ensemble. The whole look has the playfulness of a little girl and the frumpiness of an old woman; I don’t think that’s a bad thing. In fact, it reminds me of myself.
