Hi everyone! My name’s Mary, and I’m a rising senior at Sacred Heart University studying Marketing and Fashion Merchandising, as well as a returning Style Guru for CollegeFashionista. This summer will be my second term as a Style Guru, and I’m excited to take on summer style after a semester that was largely bogged down by snow. I hope to capture unique and inspiring looks on home turf, just as I did on campus this past semester.
I’d still have to say that my personal style is dictated largely by dark colors and simplistic, classic looks, but I am trying to change it up this summer! Here I’m wearing a casual black and white outfit spruced up with metallic sandals and my new Banana Republic denim jacket. I want to step out of my comfort zone by incorporating more colors and styles into my wardrobe. After all, fashion is all about drama, which is one of the reasons why it’s an industry that’s so addicting. Just today at the Billboard Music awards, H&M designer Olivier Rousteing announced an upcoming collaboration with H&M, assisted by none other than his right-hand girls Kendall Jenner and Jourdan Dunn—talk about drama! Recall the buzz surrounding Kanye West x adidas or the H&M and Alexander Wang collaboration that seemed to be the culmination of this year’s athleisure trend and sold out in moments. I remember interning in Soho the day the latter was released and seeing lines down the block outside of every H&M store. These are just a few of the fashion moments that stick out in my mind from the past year, along with getting to assist at New York Fashion Week twice. All of this just gets me more excited for what’s to come!
After a year of interning for a fashion branding firm in New York and writing for CollegeFashionista, I wanted to keep the momentum going this summer. As a Massachusetts girl, I set out to find an internship for the summer closer to home than New York but still involving my love of fashion, and was lucky enough to find one at a company called Boutikey. Boutikey is an e-commerce boutique company representing mostly Boston area boutiques that seeks to bring the boutique shopping experience to customers in a digitally savvy way. I’m excited to learn more about online marketing, e-commerce and social influencer marketing. I’ll also get to work in their pop-up shop right in the heart of Boston, so I’ll get to experience Boston’s fashion scene firsthand.
Thank you for the support, and be sure to check in throughout the summer to see what I’ve found!
