Hello Fashionista/os! I’m May, a rising junior at the University of Maryland, College Park. I am currently double majoring in Psychology and Communications while also pursuing a minor in General Business. This is my first semester as a Style Guru and I cannot wait to see what this semester will bring!
Fashion has always been a significant part of my life. I’m not quite sure where my initial obsession with fashion developed, but I have always remembered having a keen eye for picking out standout pieces and predicting future fashion trends. I’ve always enjoyed playing dress up as a kid and took it a step further by wearing my crazy outfits out. I guess you can say I like to experiment when it comes to fashion and believe me, I’ve had my count of regrettable fashion decisions. I’m a firm believer of learning from your mistakes – so what better way to discover your own fashion sense than trying everything?
It’s difficult to sum my own personal fashion sense down to a single term since it is constantly changing. My style for the day depends on a combination between my mood and what I am currently feeling inspired by. At the moment, my main sources of fashion inspiration are Aimee Song and Ashley Madekwe. Although I do enjoy reading about popular trends in fashion, when it comes to my current personal sense of style, I like to stay quite minimalistic.
I like to incorporate fashion trends into my outfits while keeping everything comfortable and practical. After all, those are two key characteristics college students look for in terms of fashion. A good pair of shoes is my kryptonite. No matter how many pairs I own, I can’t ever seem to have enough. In my opinion, shoes can make or break an outfit. You can always rely on a good pair of chunky heels to upgrade an outfit from casual to chic.
My outfit today consists of few of my new closet staples. I have been really digging the sporty trend and recently picked up a pair of Nike Roshe sneakers and have been wearing them nonstop. I choose to pair my sneakers with my lilac tennis skirt. I really liked the juxtaposition between the two pieces. The sneakers were sporty while the color and silhouette of the tennis skirt was very feminine and girly. To finish the outfit, I wore a simple black crop tank top and my go-to black choker necklace.
