“Don’t be scared to be you. Be ready.” Easier said than done, I know, but it’s one of the greatest pieces of advice I’ve ever received. What’s the fun in life if you never get to live one unique to you? It’s never easy to fully express who you are (that’s certainly the truth for me), but why let anyone hold you back from something you love? It took a long time to find myself, but finding my passions was a huge step in doing so. At times, I have difficulty expressing myself through words and so, instead, I express myself through photography, trumpet and fashion. Each one allows me to push past my barriers and shine through in my own originality.
Continuing in my passions has allowed me to expand my comfort zone and begin joining more groups and clubs. I am now an instrumental performance and music education major at the University of Montana and am part of the marching band, pep band, concert band, jazz band and my own small group. I have also started my own photography business and joined my university’s fashion blog. I have met many people through these groups who inspire me to continue pursuing my dreams.
As for my fashion style, I love a classy yet edgy look. Neutral colors, layering and statement pieces are favorites of mine. I practically live for black jeans, many layers, scarves and unique and vintage jewelry. I also enjoy building an outfit from the inspiration of a single unique piece.
My first semester of college has been quite the journey and has definitely helped be realize just how much I love all three of my passions. When I’m not practicing the trumpet, learning new instruments or photographing different subjects, I’m curled up under a soft blanket, working on creating my own online magazine or searching social media for new inspirations. In the future, I hope to continue a photography career in the fashion industry along with continuing to perform and teach music.
