STYLE GURU BIO: McKenna Munden

In the words of Marie Forleo, “Show up in every single moment like you’re meant to be there.”

I have to admit, I did not know who Miss Forleo was before I found this post on Pinterest during one of my many inspiration searches there, but she has some really great advice. Most of my life I have spent hiding back in the shadows, afraid to be my own person and express my own personality. Life is far too short to spend time like you’re not meant to be there at all.

It has taken me years to realize this, and I am still working on improving my own self confidence. Yet, I’ve already made it so far and I couldn’t have done it without the arts. Music, photography, fashion, etcetera, have always been a way for my personality to shine through. Through numerous bands, I have created amazing memories, met fantastic friends and built up my confidence slowly but surely. Photography has allowed me to express my emotions and further explore who I really am on an emotional level. And fashion has given me another way to express who I am, what I stand for and what makes me me.

I am currently attending the University of Montana for music performance with a focus in trumpet, and I am debating adding a journalism or marketing major as well. I am involved in many bands such as the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Marching Band, Pep Band and my own small group. I have begun my own photography business and am working to push that forward and have even set up my own professional website. Here, I am also in the process of adding my own blog and hope to add photography and fashion posts whenever possible. I am the photographer for a local boutique as well as for my university’s fashion blog, where I also occasionally show off my own style. It is through all of these groups and activities that have allowed me to become the person I am today and can say that I am proud of.

My fashion style reflects all of this through a classy yet edgy look. I enjoy neutral colors (if any color at all), timelessness, layering and statement pieces. I practically live for black jeans and a striped shirt! Being a Style Guru last semester was a fantastic experience and I cannot wait to capture more incredible looks this summer. I hope that I am able to capture not only great outfits but also the unique personality in each Fashionista/o and how they have demanded to be known in each moment.

In this outfit, I am sporting my go to black jeans and one of my many striped T-shirts. I’ve added a wide-brim hat to block the sun and add a fun detail to my the look along with white shoes to pull it all together and continue the black and white theme.
