STYLE GURU BIO: Megan Quist

My name is Megan Quist and this is my sixth semester being a Style Guru, along with two summers. I am a senior at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, studying retail merchandising, but I’m originally from Minnetonka, Minnesota. It was freezing taking these photos outside, but us Minnesotans can take the cold. I am very involved on campus with anything and everything retail! I am on the Retail Advisory Board, the National Retail Federation Student Association, President of Fashion and Business, and I am also a mentor for an organization called Project Diva. Within the next few months, I am hoping to leave the Midwest and find a job in New York City. I am headed there in January, so fingers crossed! This summer I was a merchant analyst intern for Kohl’s, and loved seeing the inner workings of the buying office. I also worked a lot on my blog this summer named Megan and Mpls.

Since seventh grade, I have never been one to just jump out of bed last minute and barely make it to class. A shower and a pre-selected outfit are always necessary. My freshman year of college I started working at Saks Fifth Ave OFF Fifth, which went through a liquidation and was previously a full line store. So when the store closed I got bags and bags of designer clothes and have fallen in love ever since. Some of my favorite brands include BCBG, Ralph Lauren, French Connection, Rachel Zoe, Rebecca Taylor, and anything in the Contemporary section of Saks. My style is a mix of classic preppy and trendy. I love the Gossip Girl aesthetic, simple black and white shirts with a tie and some ruffles. Pairing that with some high waisted leather leggings and a houndstooth blazer is my go-to.

Another one of the styles that I hope doesn’t fade anytime soon are pantsuits! Although I am only 5’6, pantsuits make me feel like I am so much taller and I love it. The one I am wearing is from a Rachel Zoe sample sale which I got in May in New York. If only I could have bought one of everything at the sample sale! Rachel Zoe has great staple pieces that every girl needs in her closet. As for the deep V, fashion tape is always in my bag to hold up outfits like this.

I didn’t feel like I needed any jewelry for this outfit as the sleeves are long, and the V is a detail itself. My bootie heels with a pop of fringe are from Marshall’s (another store where I could easily fill my cart in about 10 minutes). As for my bag, this is my new Valentino baby. Without the Saks discount, I would never have been able to afford it on a college budget. I am excited to add more classic staple items like this one to my closet.

There have been so many amazing Fashionista/os that I have met so far throughout college with CollegeFashionista. Can’t wait to see what my last semester brings!
