Hey Fashionistas/os! I’m Melanie and this marks my third semester with CollegeFashionista. I’m entering my third year at the University of Florida, majoring in journalism and minoring in French.
Not much has changed since my last STYLE GURU BIO. I spent this summer in New York City interning at NYLON magazine, and not only was it a dream come true scenario, but it was also life-affirming reassurance that New York is my favorite city. When I wasn’t snapping rad Fashionistas/os, I was out eating my way through Brooklyn, snapping way too many tourist pictures at Coney Island and waiting for an idyllic sunset over the Manhattan skyline. Meeting fellow Style Gurus, who would later become good friends, and seeing the strength of the CollegeFashionista network was crazy.
As much as I like to think that New York changed me, my style remains pretty basic. You’ll rarely catch me in anything but jeans, a T-shirt and comfy shoes. What New York has reminded me, however, is the power of personal expression—be it through words or a wardrobe. As a self-described introvert, I enjoy sharing the people, movies and books, among other things, that influence my moods and style.
So as I gear up for another semester in what has affectionately been dubbed “The Swamp,” aka Gainesville, Florida, it’s with the intention of sharing all the rad Fashionistas/os that reside here. Florida is more than old people, southern people and theme parks—just as campus fashion is more than frat tanks, running shorts and flip flops.
