Hey there, Fashionistas/os of the world! My name is Melanie Butron and I am a rising sophomore with a major in Marketing at St. John’s University in New York. Growing up in the city means that I have been exposed to a diverse group of people and have come across many different styles. Because of this, I’ve learned to appreciate how other people’s cultures and life experiences affect the way they dress.
I believe fashion is an art. It is a way of expressing myself and showing my personality before anyone gets to meet me. To relate this to marketing, fashion is also my brand. I have the ability to choose who I will be for the day when I get dressed in the morning. My personal style fluctuates daily depending on my mood and what I have planned for the day.
I tend to wear a lot of blacks, whites and greys in basic shapes and silhouettes. I like to keep my outfits simple with either a patterned top with a solid bottom, or vice-versa. I complete my outfits with a nice pair of shoes and statement accessories. I wear a lot of moto jackets, which is why autumn is my favorite season. Layering, scarves and booties are my best friend. My style leans towards edgy with a sprinkle of girly on the side. Sometimes I even sport men’s clothing when I want to be a bit more comfy.
In the summer, I usually stick to dresses to battle the city heat. However, today I chose to wear a simple black crop top with a plaid envelope skort. I’m guilty of wearing the dreaded sock and shoe combination very often (sue me, but I think it’s cute). I finished off the outfit with my favorite wide brim fedora and reflective cat eye sunglasses. I catch a lot of people staring at me when I wear them (or maybe they’re just looking at their reflections). I wear the same black watch every day not just as an accessory, but as a necessity. With my busy lifestyle, time is always of the essence, so this watch always comes in handy.
This is my first time as a Style Guru so I’m super excited to be sharing my fashion adventures with you guys!
