Hi there, Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Melanie and I’m from a small town called Wheeling, West Virginia. You may know a few big names from where I’m from such as John Corbett, commonly known as Aiden from Sex and the City or country star Brad Paisley. I am a senior at The Fashion School at Kent State University. Fashion Merchandising is the degree I am currently working on, with a minor in Marketing. I plan to study at the Paris American Academy this coming July and am beyond excited to be graduating in August. My big city dreams don’t stop there; after graduation I plan to move to LA, “The city of dreams,” to pursue my fashion career. I cant even begin to explain to you how happy I am to have the opportunity to be a Style Guru this spring semester and am even more excited to show off the fashions that can be seen on a day-to-day basis in the small and more than likely unknown city and campus of Kent, Ohio.
Ever since I can remember I have been obsessed with everything fashion and beauty related. I vividly remember friends in elementary school and middle school wanting to come over to my house mainly to use my closet for “dress up.” Dress up has made its transition to many friends borrowing pieces of my wardrobe for any situation imaginable. Over the past few years my love for clothing has escalated to makeup and skincare. I can’t seem to get enough!
With age my style has changed, just as many others, however I have also realized that I do not have one specific style. I think my personal style depends on my mood when I am checking out my closet! I have grown to love that characteristic about myself, being able to transition from one style to another like a chameleon is my forte. I think everyone should change up their style a bit to have fun and to see fashion from different sides of the spectrum!
After interning/studying in New York this past summer, I have realized how passionate I am about seeking out others’ personal style and trends. I have become more aware of emerging trends in fashion and have a better eye of street style after living in the Big Apple. Now it’s your chance to show me your personal style! With camera in hand, I can’t wait to see what this semester has in store and I can’t wait to capture everyone’s amazing style!
